Where do you live....

"I live in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia [link] It is about an hour from the states capital city of Melbourne. It has a long history, mainly based around gold mining, it was settled around 1838. It has many old prominent buildings remaining and strong rural outskirts which is a wonderful backdrop for my work. I live in the city, in a converted old Grocers store that dates back to around 1910. It serves as my house and studio space."

Musical Interests? What Genre do you like? Artists?

"I have real eclectic taste in music. When I was younger it was strictly hard rock all the way, but as I’ve got a bit older that is still there but I have opened up other doors which depend fully on my mood. Matchbox 20 and Chris Isaak come to mind straight off, but when I’m shooting I always want something up tempo and rocking to keep the flow of a shoot going, so I usually revert to the old classics for that."

If you were stranded on an Island what 3 items would you like to have with you?

"My girl, my camera and something to play music, all these things are essential to stop me from going insane I’m afraid."

What do you love about your work/photography?

"Well, it’s been a passion of mine for most of my life, and when I’m passionate about something I throw myself into it fully. I love that I get to explore new ideas and concepts everyday, I’m all for experimenting and it allows me to never really grow up, I have an excuse to go and buy balls for a ball pit, heels and stockings, and some of the weirdest things you have ever seen, all in the name of art. I also love the fact that I get to work with different people, a lot who have never been in front of a camera before, and showing them just how beautiful they are, it’s a great journey and I can’t imagine giving it up for any reason."

What do you hate about your work/photography?

"That’s a much harder question. I don’t really think I hate anything about my work, or I simply wouldn’t do it, life is suppose to be fun, I shoot because I enjoy it. Although sometimes the pressure put on artists on deviant art can be complicated because we are expected to be constantly coming up with new things, pushing the boundaries and wowing everyone. I’m not a professional, I don’t have a University degree and I don’t get paid for this, I do it for the love of it and work on images with friends, not professional models, so sometimes I feel pressured to compete with the big boys who do this for a living. But that pressure usually passes and I just go back to doing what I want, and creating ideas and it’s all cool."

Are good muses/models hard to find?

"A good muse, or model is almost impossible to find. I mean anyone can stand in front of a camera, but few really knows what the term Muse means. I have been lucky that with my work I have had a few people I would consider muses have gravitated to me, and for that I’m truly blessed because for many years I searched for these women. So no, they are not easy to find, so when I find one I hang onto them with both hands."
